Commodity Buyer
Basildon
£25,000 - £30,000
This is a permanent full time position working for a large manufacturing company based in Basildon, Essex. The position offers a good starting salary of £25,000 - £30,000 plus pension and life assurance.
As Commodity Buyer you will be part of the Procurement Department and will report in to the Head of Procurement. You will need to have at least five years buying / purchasing experience (ideally in the area of mechanical assembly) and should be educated to a reasonable level. The position requires someone with strong negotiation skills and general contract law knowledge who is organised and computer literate.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all Procurement responsibilities, ensuring that suppliers meet all requirements in terms of cost, quality and delivery. You will be required to liaise with product engineering and production control to ensure all requirements are understood and met and will need to liaise with stores and shop floor to ensure that any issues are dealt with quickly. Specific duties will include:
• Placing Purchase Orders and Management of Supply
• Achieving cost reductions
• Where possible, ensuring that the company’s terms and conditions of purchase are accepted. Where this is not possible, you will be required to ensure that supplier terms are checked thoroughly before orders are placed
• Ensuring that all purchase schedules are delivery dates are adhered to
• Managing and developing a controlled supply chain
In addition to previous buying / procurement experience, my client is looking for someone with good problem solving and process improvement skills who is flexible and adaptable. You will also need to be hardworking and reliable with an ethos of continuous improvement.
